Members of the present Association travelled to Ypres, Belgium, on Sunday 17 March to attend a moving service at St George’s Memorial Church, during which a new school plaque commemorating all former students and staff was formally presented and dedicated. The church itself stands as a memorial to the tens of thousands of British Empire troops who lost their lives in the Ypres Salient. Many former Neale‑Wade students will remember visiting St George’s during the school’s Battlefield Study Tours.

During the visit, Association members also paid their respects at the graves of former Old Boys, laying poppies in remembrance.

Similar plaques are installed at St Wendreda’s Church and Neale-Wade.

The plaques commemorate former pupils and staff who lost their lives in the First World War and in subsequent conflicts, and it also marks the Association’s 100th reunion, held on 28 June 2019.
